This is my first Thoughtdump. It is a thought I had but have not, and may not, turn in an article.

I wonder. Is our realisation of the self simply a means by wich our minds attempt to abstractualize reality for the precise purpose of giving itself a purpose? Is the mind that we have a historical evolutionary accident?

It would explain a lot, mental illness, depression… a mind that grew impossibly big, that needed to find its own function, a purpose. Consciousness could be an attempt of our brain to find a purpose for itself. After all, the brain uses a massive amount of energy, having it must have a point. But this point might as well be a sort of cheat by our own brain, that attempted to make itself essential to us. Consciousness doesn’t seem to have much purpose, yet it must have been a massive thing to develop, from a psycho-evolutionary point of view.

But what if consciousness was slowly developed as a massive brain process that would both make the size and expansion of the brain a necessity and exclude people without it? People without consciousness are not considered suitable mates. Even those with a small deficiency are at a great disadvantage.
